Hi Friends,
I feel so blessed with the job that I have at Fiasco Design, a job which I have really enjoyed for more than a decade now, that even just thinking about quitting (which I’m not) fills me with fear. But, alas, if we are to follow our vocation we must at least consider such things from time to time, lest we become confined to a world of comfort.
My wife, on the other hand, has developed an impressive ability to spot new opportunities that suit the needs of her season in life and leap into them with real confidence and without hesitation. It’s impressive. It’s like she has a radar system constantly deployed, and a compass for chasing down her type of work.
So, basically here are some thinklings about quitting or sticking it out.
When we’re offered a promotion, it’s often a reward for our hard work and a complete no-brainer to accept it.
But the Peter Principle might have you thinking twice. A promotion, even in the same sector or role, could actually be moving you away from the work that you really love, and, as is common toward more managerial activities. It might pay more, but it might cost more too. There’s a shorter explainer video here too.
Check it out :)
I also loved reading this short story about Novac Djokovic finding a new lease of life in his tennis…after quitting!
“I started to play freely,” he says of that season. “I became the kid that I was when I started playing.”
Fascinating.
A short poem called Risk by Anais Nin:
And then the day came,
when the risk
to remain tight
in a bud
was more painful
than the risk
it took
to blossom.

PewDiePie discusses how he decided to quit his dream of YouTube despite life-changing success, and why he changed his mind and stuck with it anyway.
What signs would I expect to see if this season of my life has run it’s course? What would it look like to finish it well?
I got a mention! 😎
